Countdown to BROKEN’s release in the United States on November 4, 2014

To celebrate the release of BROKEN in the United States in only TEN days – November 4, 2014 – here is an early review from Elizabeth Nebeker, School Librarian in Houston, Texas.

Curley, Marianne

Broken

352pp. $17.99 hc. Bloomsbury Children’s Books. 978-1-61963-168-7. Grade 7 & Up

This book is a good read for young adults who enjoy fantasy-based love stories with strong characters. This title, the second book in the Avena series, is told from three different viewpoints. Ebony is trying to come to terms with the fact that she may be an angel; her feelings for Thane and closeness to Jordan complicate her destiny. Jordan is torn between his feelings for Ebony and promises he made to the Dark Prince. Thane is the prince of Angels who is torn between his eternal love for Ebony and his destiny. Although the chapters switch narrators, the writing is strong enough that each character is fully developed, and it is not difficult to follow the story. The characters each have their own distinct voice and the story flows smoothly. The fight between light and dark has long been told, but the uniqueness of the angel storyline will make this a popular read. Elizabeth Nebeker, School Librarian, Houston, Texas.
